Q. How to register as an assessor with the MQA?
A. People wishing to be registered as assessors with the MQA should:
- Be found competent by an ETDPSETA accredited training provider, and
- Be a subject matter expert (either through experience or qualification) in a mining and minerals related field in which they wish to assess.

Q. How to register as a moderator with the MQA?
A. People wishing to be registered as moderators with the MQA should:
- Be MQA registered assessors; and
- Be found competent as moderators by an ETDPSETA accredited training provider.

Q. How to receive programme approval from the MQA?
A. Companies wishing to receive Programme Approval from MQA should:
1. Be accredited by another ETQA;
2. Have a Quality Management System;
3. Have an assessment system, including MQA registered assessors;
4. Have a moderation system; and
5. Have unit standard based learning material. However, you do not have to satisfy all
the requirements in place, please download the Programme Approval Kit form under
the Quality Assurance section.
Q. How to become an accredited training provider with the MQA?
A. A company wishing to be accredited with the MQA should fulfill the following
requirements:
1. Produce evidence that they are in the process of implementing or have achieved the
ISO 9001:2000 standard;
2. Have an assessment system, including MQA registered assessors;
3. Have a moderation system; and
4. Have unit standard based learning material.
Q. What is scope extention?
A. When an Accredited or Program Approved provider wishes to extend their scope of
training in order to include programs that were not covered in the initial application.
Q. How to apply for scope extention?
A. A company wishing to apply for scope for extension should:
Write a letter and complete the scope extension application form which can be obtained
Q. Who qualifies for ETQA related discretionary grants (ISO, Assessor and
Moderator grants?
A. A company which:
1. Is a levy payer to the MQA
2. Has already submitted Portfolio of Evidence file (PoE) for accreditation or already
accredited by the MQA
3. Is conducting or assessing against Mining and Minerals |
