Invitation to Attend the 2018 Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report Workshops

The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) for the mining and minerals sector in terms of the Skills Development Act of No.74 of 1998. Organisations in the mining and minerals sector are hereby invited to attend training workshops for the 2018 workplace skills plans and annual training report (WSP-ATR) submission process.

The aim of these workshops is to engage and provide capacity to stakeholders on the application processes, changes on the WSP-ATR template, and the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) requirements for submitting the 2018 WSP-ATRs.

The workshops are also in compliance with the Skills Development Act, and the Mine Health and Safety Act No. 74 of 2008 where section 10 (5) states that ‘All mines must submit a workplace skills plan and the annual  training report to the Mining Qualifications Authority’.

The WSP-ATR acts as a primary data collection tool to identify priority skills within the sector, profile the sector, as well as other pertinent skills development matters. This will ensure quality data is submitted for analysis to report on the status of skills development in the sector.

Therefore, all organisations in the sector are urged to submit their WSP-ATRs to qualify for the mandatory grant, and to gain access to Discretionary Grant programmes subject to the MQA’s funding requirements. Furthermore, the MQA is mandated by the Skills Development Act to submit a Sector Skills Plan (SSP) for the sector to the DHET. The schedule is as follows:
