HET Lecturer Support

Background

The MQA and the Universities have identified the need to form a strategic collaboration in order to achieve employment equity and transformation within the Universities Mining Engineering and Mine Survey departments. The MQA may at a later stage consider extending the objectives and application of this initiative to other universities departments that offer courses required in the mining industry. Such extension would necessitate collaboration with other relevant SETAs.

The collaboration seeks to achieve sustainable, high quality mining education in support of the transformation agenda of the government and the mining industry; create a pool of skills and promote interest in academia among HDSAs; empower the Universities to transform and to be representative in its lecturing staff complement.

The Universities in collaboration with the MQA wishes to develop a representative academic / lecturing staff profile and to support transformation by recruiting and developing suitably qualified individuals, (hereinafter referred to as the graduates) from persons designated as Historically Disadvantaged South Africans (“HDSA”) as defined in the Employment Equity Act.

In turn the Universities shall allow the graduates to persue their postgraduate studies with the University to enhance their academic qualifications and to encourage them to persue a career in lecturing.
