The programme will include structured experiential training and off the job training that may lead to professional competence. The company and the graduate trainee will sign a two year contract based on performance with the MQA specifying the outcomes of the programme. On completion of the programme, the candidate will be required to work in the Mining and Minerals Sector for a period not less than the period of training. Companies are not obliged to employ the candidates at the end of the training period. The aim of the programme is for the host companies to give industry experience to the candidates to better their chances of absorption in the Sector.
The MQA will pay a grant of R316 000 per trainee over the two years to the host company to offset the costs for allowances, accommodation and meals (where required), off the job training, transport, medical cover, insurance cover, UIF, Personal Protective Clothing, etc.
