The MQA is calling for applications from companies who are registered in the MQA Database of employers to submit expressions of interest to participate in the above programme by hosting the graduates and diplomats on their sites for a period of two years. Companies who are interested to participate must be paying Levies to the MQA (except if they are below the threshold for Levy payment). The companies must also have adequate infrastructure, be financially viable, and have sufficient and qualified coaches and mentors in the relevant disciplines to deliver the programme in line with the MQA GDP Guidelines.
Companies will host candidates who have completed a national diploma or a degree in one of the following disciplines:
Mining Engineering, Metallurgy (Minerals Processing), Chemical Engineering (Minerals Processing), Analytical Chemistry, Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current), Mechanical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Geology, Jewellery Design and Manufacturing, Environmental Management, Mine Survey, Industrial Engineering.
The programme will include structured experiential training and off the job training that may lead to professional competence. The company and the graduate trainee will sign a two year contract based on performance with the MQA specifying the outcomes of the programme. On completion of the programme, the candidate will be required to work in the Mining and Minerals Sector for a period not less than the period of training. Companies are not obliged to employ the candidates at the end of the training period. The aim of the programme is for the host companies to give industry experience to the candidates to better their chances of absorption in the Sector.
The MQA will pay a grant of R316 000 per trainee over the two years to the host company to offset the costs for allowances, accommodation and meals (where required), off the job training, transport, medical cover, insurance cover, UIF, Personal Protective Clothing, etc.
Applications must reach the MQA Office by end of business on 20 June 2008. The application form can either be emailed or faxed to the MQA Office. Companies can contact the MQA Office at the details stated below:
