The mining and minerals sector is one of the sectors with working conditions that have contributed to the increase in the number of people with disabilities as a result of mining related accidents.
The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) has identified a need to develop a Disability and Reasonable Accommodation Toolkit for the mining and minerals sector. The Disability and Reasonable Accommodation Toolkit is a tool that will assist companies in the mining and minerals sector to ensure that people with disabilities are incorporated into the sector.
The MQA will be hosting a workshop to address issues related to the inclusion of Learners with Disabilities into the sector.
The purpose of the workshop is to:
-
Guide employers to understand issues relating to the intake of employees and learners with disabilities for effective inclusion in the mining and minerals sector
-
Equip employers with cost effective and reasonable options for ensuring that employees access their worksites and improve accessibility for people with disabilities as well as the general public
