The Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) is a public entity in terms of the Mine Health andSafety Act of 1996 and is also registered as a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) in terms of the Skills Development Act of 1998.
The MQA hereby invites nominations from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the appointment to serve on the Remuneration Committee (REMCO).
Those interested must have commitment to excellence in Sector Education and Training for the Mining and Minerals Sector as well as skills and expertise to contribute to the governance of the MQA.
Prospective candidates must have an understanding of the Mining and Minerals Sector and best practice methods in remuneration concepts.
Requirements

An appropriate qualification in Human Resources, Remuneration or any other relevant discipline

Experience in Remuneration structures and best practice methods in remuneration determination

Appropriate experience and/or knowledge of the Public Service and Public Entities will be a strong recommendation

Previous experience as a member of a Remuneration Committee in the Public Sector and/or public entity will be advantageous
Duties of REMCO
-
Implement the Paterson Grading System within all occupational categories
-
Make recommendations regarding annual salary increments

Make recommendations regarding the grading of positions
-
Make recommendations regarding the salary discrepancies per position within each occupational category

Interview independent remuneration experts on remuneration matters including remuneration surveys

Develop a remuneration philosophy for the MQA
Remuneration
-
REMCO members will be remunerated in accordance with the rates determined by the National Treasury from time to time.

Travelling on official duty will be reimbursed at rates determined by the MQA from time to time.
Term of office
The term of office will be for a period of two (2) years, renewable depending on performance.
Selection procedure
Short listed candidates will be invited for interviews that will be conducted by a panel appointed by the MQA Board. It will be prerogative of the Board to make the final appointments upon the recommendations of the selection committee.
